Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Parent Information Evenings

Previously, the take Home laptop program allowed our students access to technology 24/7/365 in order to enhance their learning.  The provision of these laptops was made possible by the Commonwealth Government’s National Secondary Schools Computer Fund (NSSCF).  With the Government decision not to continue this funding, we are now introducing an initiative that will allow all students to bring a device that they can use at home and school for the start of 2015, this is known as BYOD or Bring Your Own Device.

Our school will nominate the types of devices that would most suit the programs we are running.  These devices will be taken from a range of affordable laptops or even certain tablets that are available.  Students can then choose a device specific to their needs and the program of study they are undertaking.  If students already own an appropriate device, they would be able to use their existing device in the school.  We will provide guidance around the recommended requirements of a device and will identify options that are ‘general usage’ as well as ‘subject specific usage’ to allow parents and students to get sustainability from their device.

The school will be running two information nights in the Sports Hall on the 22nd of October and the 5th of November to provide information about the BYOD options for students in 2015. This will consist of a short presentation between 5:30pm – 6:00pm and a Q & A session from 6:00pm – 6:30pm.  There will also be documentation available to help parents make the best decision on what device will best suit their child’s needs.
